New York Councilman Charged With Money Laundering

City Councilman Larry B. Seabrook, a fixture in Bronx Democratic politics for more than two decades, was charged on Tuesday with money laundering, extortion and fraud in a series of schemes that included helping a close associate win a contract to install boilers in the new Yankee Stadium and siphoning hundreds of thousands of dollars in city money to himself, friends and family members.

CBS Producer Pleads Not Guilty in Letterman Sex Extortion Case

Robert Halderman, a producer for CBS Corp. television, pleaded not guilty to charges he tried to extort $2 million from talk show host David Letterman in exchange for not revealing sexual affairs.

Former New York State Supreme Court Justice Thomas J. Spargo was convicted today by a federal jury in Albany, N.Y., of attempted extortion and soliciting a bribe, Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Criminal Division and Special Agent in Charge John F. Pikus of the FBI's Albany office announced.
