BANGKOK -- Laos denied the U.N. immediate access to 4,500 ethnic Hmong who were forcibly repatriated from Thailand, saying Wednesday it would "complicate" matters but that international observers could visit later.	BANGKOK — Human rights activists and diplomats voiced fears Tuesday for the fate of thousands of ethnic Hmong asylum seekers, including children, expelled by Thailand to its communist neighbour Laos.

About 1,200 commercial trucks from Thailand, Vietnam and Laos are able to enter into one another's territories for the first time to deliver and pick up goods following Thursday's formal exchange of traffic rights and introduction of a regional customs transit system.	A pregnant British woman was sentenced to life in prison for heroin trafficking by a court in Laos today. A panel of judges found Samantha Orobator, 20, guilty of trafficking 680g (1.5lb) of heroin last August, when she was caught trying to board a plane to Thailand.
