Michigan to get big slice of $2.4 billion in battery grants

WASHINGTON – Michigan will be the big winner under a $2.4 billion plan to boost U.S. manufacturing of electric and hybrid vehicles that Vice President Joe Biden will unveil later this morning in Detroit.

The Fisker Karma Sunset PHEV hardtop convertible coupe has been named 2009 Production Preview Concept of the Year, part of the North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards. Henrik Fisker, CEO of California-based Fisker Automotive, accepted the honors today during a ceremony at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Michigan.

Pomona -- On the second day of his tour of Southern California, President Obama highlighted his environmental jobs agenda with a visit to an electric-vehicle testing facility in Pomona, where he announced a $2.4-billion competitive grant program to make the electric vehicles more widely available.
