A beautiful Staten Island teenager threw herself in front of a city bus after a group of mean girls at her high school tormented her for months and an older boy broke her heart, her family said.

Vaclav Havel, an anti-Communist playwright who became Czech president and a worldwide symbol of peace and freedom after leading the bloodless "Velvet Revolution," died at the age of 75 on Sunday.

Longtime Republican New York State Assemblyman Thomas Kirwan has died. He was 78.

On Nov. 22, 1963, Tom Wicker was in the first press bus following John F. Kennedy's motorcade when the president was assassinated. Wicker, The New York Times' White House correspondent, would later write in a memoir that the day was a turning point for the country: "The shots ringing out in Dealey Plaza marked the beginning of the end of innocence."

Robert Loughlin, who painted a square-jawed man he dubbed "the brute" around New York City and sold vintage furniture to art world stars, died Tuesday. He was 62.
