Lady Antebellum wins record, song of year at Grammy Awards

Lady Antebellum's yearning crossover ballad "Need You Now" captured record and song of the year honors at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, two of the country trio's leading five trophies on a night that was short on awards but heavy on spectacle performances.

She had already made one of her most bizarre red carpet entrances yet as she arrived at the Grammys concealed in a giant egg. The 24-year-old outrageous singer emerged from the glowing egg to launch into a spectacular version of her latest single Born This Way.

Only a close watcher of the living, breathing pop art installation known as Lady Gaga would call her red carpet Grammy Awards outfit restrained. Compared to her MTV Video Music Awards ensembles, that is. Or compared to the Muppet massacre she sported on German television last year. It must be exhausting to be Gaga, having to top yourself all the time. We'll call her red carpet look a postmodern Glinda the Good Witch ... in drag, of course.

Grammy fashion: Bests and worsts

Awards season is long and sometimes boring, but luckily for fans of fashion, the Grammys come along to lighten the mood. Which artists hit high or low notes on the red carpet Sunday night? Here are our picks:

Grammy Awards winners: Sentiment prevails over artisty . . . again

Well, the Grammy Awards played out mostly as expected, with one twist. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss bagged the Grammy for best album of the year ("Raising Sand") on cue, but — surprise — also best record ("Please Read the Letter"), a category widely forecast to go to Coldplay, which won best song for "Viva La Vida." Plant/Krauss weren't nominated in that Grammy race, but probably would've snagged that if they'd made the list.
