Just a decade ago, the picture-perfect postcard of Manhattan was a twinkling panoramic view punctuated by the iconic Empire State Building which towered far above neighbouring rooftops. The closest relative to the skyline's defining skyscraper was the Chrysler Building on the East Side. But looking at the same skyline today from across the Hudson River, the city's nightscape seems to have come alive with dazzling and glitzy bright lights.

For reasons still unexplained, a city mechanic accellerated a salt-spreading truck he was operating through the wall of a Sanitation Department repair building in Queens, N.Y., Wednesday morning. Robert Legall, 56, was trapped in the cab of the truck for half an hour while it dangled 30 feet above ground, The New York Times reported. A Fire Department spokesperson said that firefighters used a cherry picker to remove him from the truck.

It was an awesome example of nature’s power on a stormy night in London. As this flight came into Heathrow, a jagged bolt of lightning smashed into the roof, right above the pilots’ heads. The powerful jolt of electricity passed right through the body of the Airbus A380 before shooting out to continue its journey to the ground.

Photographs acquired by Reuters and taken about an hour after the U.S. assault on Osama bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad in Pakistan show three dead men lying in pools of blood, but no weapons. The photos, taken by a Pakistani security official who entered the compound after the early morning raid on Monday, show two men dressed in traditional Pakistani garb and one in a t-shirt, with blood streaming from their ears, noses and mouths.
