MTV Networks announced Thursday that its chairman and chief executive, Judy McGrath, was resigning. The surprising change at the top comes at a time when MTV is riding a surge in both ratings for its programs and profits for its parent company, Viacom.

Imagine turning your car’s steering wheel, or giving it a gentle tug, and having it break away from the steering column. Now you’re speeding along holding the suddenly useless wheel. It sounds like a vision from a cartoon, or every driver’s nightmare. And it happened to at least one driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze compact car last month, and General Motors Corp. is recalling 2,100 of the cars as a result.

General Motors Co. says it suspended production at its Shreveport, La., plant for the week of March 21 because of a parts shortage stemming from last week’s earthquake in Japan. Damage to parts suppliers and transportation networks in Japan have brought that country’s auto industry to a halt.

Tens of millions flock to the Smithsonian museums in Washington each year to see Americana -- everything from Abraham Lincoln's top hat to Archie Bunker's chair. But one thing you'll have a hard time finding is something American in the gift shop.

The 2005 and 2006 Avalon are part of a massive, 1.53 million vehicle recall by Toyota to address brake problems, among others, in those automobiles.

Oh what a feeling indeed. Toyota, which was rocked earlier this year by a massive recall that damaged the company's image and raised safety concerns about many of its cars, is recalling another 1.53 million vehicles around the world.
