Trump Meets With Romney in New York
The meeting between the two men, set up at Mr. Romney’s request, took place at 2 p.m. Monday at Trump Towers on Fifth Avenue, and was the first time the two men chatted face-to-face since Mr. Romney declared his candidacy several months ago.
Mr. Romney managed to evade the press and neither man came out after the meeting to comment on what was discussed. But that obscured the fact that Mr. Trump, who flirted with a presidential run earlier this year and still likes to hint that he’s keeping his options open, hasn’t already had some things to say about Mr. Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts.
In an interview in April with Meghan McCain, the daughter of Senator John McCain of Arizona, for The Daily Beast, Mr. Trump said that Mr. Romney was “going to lose.”
“He doesn’t resonate, you know, or he would have won last time, in all fairness to your father!” he told Ms. McCain. Mr. Trump said he watched Mr. Romney give a speech, “and it was all these little trivial statements.”
