Oakland Athletics’ Jerry Blevins (13) celebrates with teammates, including Scott Sizemore (29) and Ryan Sweeney (15), after of a baseball game against the New York Yankees Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Yankee Stadium in New York. The Athletics won 6-5.
Nick Swisher had already pulled the Yankees close with one swing. In the ninth, he strode to the plate with a chance to do something even more special with another. Not this time.
Swisher hit a flyball that was caught just in front of the wall in right-center field with the bases loaded, ending the Yankees’ late rally and giving the Oakland Athletics a 6-5 victory over New York on Tuesday night.
