Alex Rodriguez's sprained thumb forces him out of Yankee lineup, team says he is day-to-day
A-Rod was a late scratch for Tuesday night's 6-5 loss to Oakland because of a jammed left thumb. X-Rays taken at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night were negative and Rodriguez was diagnosed with a sprain. The Yankees say he is day-to-day.
Rodriguez admitted he was in pain during an early session of batting practice and that it was difficult to properly grip the bat.
"I just jammed my thumb a little bit," Rodriguez said, referring to a backhand play on a Joe Mauer ground ball in Minnesota on Sunday. "It swelled up a little bit. Hopefully, it's just a day."
