46 bus drivers hit in NY safety check
The latest crackdown comes after a horrific tour bus crash killed 15 people returning from a Connecticut casino in March. It makes use of facial recognition technology that matches photos of driver's licenses issued under other names.
Cuomo tells The Associated Press that the arrests were the result of partnerships with the New York City Police Department, U.S. Customs and prosecutors in several counties and boroughs.
New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says many of those charged obtained multiple licenses to collect benefits and conceal violent pasts.
The drivers' licenses are suspended pending court action.
