MTA Official Mulls Food Ban On Subways - USA - MTA - New York - NYC - society - transportation


An MTA board member reportedly was considering introducing a ban on food and drinks in the subway to cut down on trash and rats that discarded food attracts.



According to the Daily News, the idea was proposed during an MTA Committee meeting Monday.

The agency currently encourages riders not to eat or drink on subways or station platforms. The practice is not illegal.

A beverage ban proposal was dropped in 2005 after riders complained they could be ticketed for having a cup of coffee during their morning commute.
