Authorities believe Ann Pettway, seen above, may have kidnapped newborn Carlina White from Harlem Hospital.
There was no answer at the door of Pettway's home in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday.
Pettway has been on parole for attempted embezzlement, and is not allowed to leave the state.
Neighbors said they had no idea of Pettway's past.
"She did mention that there things she wanted to get away from in Connecticut. She wanted to start fresh here. But to find all this out is surprising," said neighbor Sonova Smith.
