Come January, Republicans will control the State Senate, New York's highest court ruled Monday. The Court of Appeals unanimously rejected calls for a recount in a senate race on Long Island.

Democratic incumbent Craig Johnson wanted a full hand recount after a narrow loss to his Republican challenger. But the court certified that Republican Jack Martins won the race by only 451 votes.

The unanimous ruling will give Republicans a 32-30 majority in the Senate when the new legislature convenes.

The court said initial audits showed few discrepancies in the vote tally -- so there was no need to count the paper copies of every vote in every machine.
