Multi-millionaire Tony Chan conned out of $800,000 by New York limo driver and didn't even notice
Unbeknown to him, the driver kept the details of the credit card he used for the ride and spent $800,000 on it.
A multimillionaire designer was allegedly conned out of $800,000 (£500,000) for a 13-mile journey after a taxi driver copied his credit card - but did not even notice the money was gone. Tony Chan was scammed when he flew into New Jersey on a private jet and took a limousine to Manhattan in New York.
Unbeknown to him, the driver kept the details of the credit card he used for the ride and spent $800,000 on it.
It was only months later when a bank security expert noticed suspicious activity on the AmEx that the fraud was uncovered.
Peter Rahhaoui is said to have swindled the internationally renowned feng shui designer out of $794,986.
The limousine driver has denied all the charges against him.
Hong Kong-based Chan, in his 40s, built his fortune through his design work and also by working as a spiritual advisor to the likes of Nina Wang, Asia’s richest woman.
Later he became her lover and sole heir before her death in 2007 aged 69.
