Democrat Eric Schneiderman celebrates his victory over Dan Donovan in the AG race.

Eric Schneiderman handily beat Republican Dan Donovan on Tuesday night, ending a tooth-and-nail battle to become the state's next attorney general.

"I'm ready to go. I've stood up against powerful forces before and, Ladies and Gentleman, you may have noticed I'm hard to kill," Schneiderman said last night as he celebrated with fellow Democrats and his family at a midtown hotel.

Donovan, 53, had insisted that his job as Staten Island's long-serving district attorney best qualified him to clean up Albany.

On the campaign trail, Donovan questioned his rival's ties to fellow Senate Democrats embroiled in the Aqueduct racino scandal - and whether he could go after his cronies as the state's top law enforcement officer.

Donovan watched the results from the Hilton New York, where he joined fellow Republicans and his 84-year-old mom.

Schneiderman, 55, inherits an office that has been largely successful under his two Democratic predecessors, Andrew Cuomo and Eliot Spitzer.
