Queens father of three killed after his drunk driving pal travels wrong way, hits guard rail on LIE
Juan Cruz was driving pal Mauricio Visoso-Ornelas home about 4:45 a.m. when he got onto the Long Island Expressway near Syosset heading west in the eastbound lane, police said.
Several motorists phoned 911 to report a van going the wrong way, but before anything could be done, Cruz hit the median, crushing the passenger side of his 2008 Chrysler.
Visoso-Ornelas, a 28-year-old construction worker from Corona, Queens, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he died, cops said.
The crash forced Nassau County police to close the expressway near the wreck for eight hours.
Cruz, 27, of Deer Park, L.I., was charged with manslaughter and DWI. A woman who answered the phone at Cruz's home declined to comment.
