Same-sex bereavement leave approved by New York State government
It requires employers who provide their opposite-sex employees with paid funeral leave for a spouse or a spouse's family member to extend the same paid leave time to "same-sex committed partners."
"We must continue onward toward the goal of equality," Paterson said in signing the law. Same-sex committed partners under the law are considered "those who are financially and emotionally interdependent."
