There may be a new 24-hour-urgent care center in Lower Manhattan, but it will be slightly north of the site of the former St. Vincent's Hospital.

North Shore-LIJ and VillageCare are partnering to open the 20,000 square foot facility, which will include a range of health services.

If it is approved by the state, the center will open in early October on 20th Street, eight blocks north of the former St. Vincent's Hospital.

VillageCare has provided primary care services from that location for several years.

"It's just a few blocks from Saint Vincent's Hospital. It's very central to the community -- more to the west, which is actually preferable to a lot of people. And if we had been in the Saint Vincent's facility we would have only been there for a short period of time anyway," said North Shore-LIJ President & CEO Michael Dowling.

"It's expanding services, in particular the gap that Saint Vincent's left. It's not a hospital but it is intensive services for the community for people that need urgent care," said VillageCare President & CEO Emma DeVito.
