Empire State Building Fights Plan For Neighboring Rival Skyscraper
The Vornado Realty Trust is hoping to build an office tower about two blocks west of the Empire State Building on 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue.
It is currently the site of the Hotel Pennsylvania.
The skyscraper, which would be called 15 Penn Plaza, would stand a proposed 1,190 feet tall, which is only 60 feet shorter than the Empire State Building.
The problem, according to the Empire State Building, is that the height would both disrupt the skyline and interfere with the ability to see the building's lights shining at night from many blocks to the west.
(...) On Monday, the City Council will hold a meeting and either approve, disapprove or modify the proposed office tower.
