Sources: Senate Dems May Be Short Votes Ahead Of Special Session
Sources tell NY1 Senate Democrats don't have the 32 votes to close any deal, let alone finish the budget.
Senate President Pro Tem Malcolm Smith is away on vacation and senate sources say he won’t be back until next week.
Senate Democratic Conference leader John Sampson won't say whether he has the votes to get anything done. But he says his conference will not vote on a final budget bill until other matters are dealt with.
The likely proposals include a contingency plan to protect the state if it doesn't receive federal Medicaid funds, or FMAP, and a plan letting SUNY and CUNY schools set their own tuition rates.
Senate Republicans say they have yet to see a bill on either plan.
