Judge: Retired FDNY Captain Qualifies For 9/11 Memorial - USA - New York - NYC - law - 9/11 - FDNY

A Queens judge Monday ruled that a retired city firefighter killed at the World Trade Center site should be listed on the September 11th memorial.

Captain James Corrigan, who retired from the New York City Fire Department in 1994, was working as the fire safety director for the World Trade Center itself and was killed when the South Tower collapsed.

Since he wasn't on active duty, FDNY brass did not want to list him with other firefighters on the memorial.

Corrigan's family later sued.

The fire department and officials for the memorial say they're reviewing the court decision.
