West Side bike smashup leaves woman dead and man injured
The couple was traveling north on West End Ave. when a van westbound on W.65th St. zipped through the intersection and hit the couple at about 10:30 p.m., launching them into the air, cops and a witness said.
"The two people flew off the motorcycle into the air, and they skidded on the street when they landed," said eyewitness Kevin Chapman, 21, who was walking past when the vehicles collided.
"He got up and his knee was horribly injured," said Chapman, adding that the wounded biker leaned on him for support after the wreck.
The injured rider then saw his critically injured passenger lying on the pavement and "lost it," Chapman said.
"He was screaming and crying - yelling, 'No! No! No!'" he said. "She was coughing up blood, and there was blood flowing down her hair.
