Fallen NYPD Officer Awarded Medal Of Honor - police - NYPD - NYC - New York - USA


The New York City Police Department's highest honor was awarded Tuesday to an officer killed in the line of duty.



The Medal of Honor was presented to the family of Omar Edwards. His young son, Xavier, accepted the medal for his father.

Edwards was chasing someone who had broken into his car last year.

His death drew controversy because he was shot by a fellow officer.

Edwards had his gun drawn at the time.

(...) A total of 11 Distinguished Service Medals were also given to the families of NYPD brass and police officers who succumbed to illnesses they contracted during their time working on the recovery efforts after the September 11th attacks.
