More than 300 Cathay Pacific passengers were stuck in Bali last night after their aircraft to Hong Kong was grounded by technical problems.

Flight CX784 from Denpasar, which should have arrived at Chek Lap Kok at 8.25pm, will now touch down 24 hours later at 8pm today.

Cathay Pacific said a spoiler - part of the wing that helps the aircraft take off and land - needs to be replaced.

A total of 317 passengers are affected.

The 747's damaged spoiler was found in a regular check and a Cathay spokesman described the damage as not unusual.

The airline made the announcement at the departure gate when the passengers were waiting to board.
