Scientists: Cure is found for deadly skin cancer, melanoma
Dr Howard Kaufman, of Chicago's Rush University Medical Centre, said: "Our study shows we may have a cure for some advanced melanoma patients and a drug which has real benefits for others.
"This will save thousands of lives a year."
Researchers carried out a study with the participation of 50 patients, all of whom had been diagnosed with advanced melanoma and had been given no more than nine months to live, Telegraph reported.
After being shot with the vaccine, 16 per cent of them recovered completely. They have remained free of the disease for more than four years. In 28 per cent, the size of the tumours shrank by more than half.
The vaccine is hoped to be licensed and launched on the market within five years.
