Rogue Australian firefighters threatened to burn down houses instead of saving them - Australia - New South Wales - firefighter

Five rogue New South Wales firefighters threatened to burn houses down instead of saving them, ran naked in the streets, drove fire trucks while intoxicated and trashed a whistleblower's car, Australian newspaper The Sunday Telegraph reported.

According to the Telegraph article, NSW Fire Brigades has promoted two of them to leadership roles despite a damning report that found the five responsible for a campaign of harassment and intimidation in a NSW country town and recommended disciplinary action against them.

The inquiry was conducted by Superintendent Warwick Isemonger, Marlin Audit and Investigation Services, hired by the NSWFB.

The report, published last year, reveals incidents such as getting drunk at local pubs in uniform and driving the fire truck at dangerous speeds "to see what it could do".

The report also tells of drunken, uniformed officer running "pants-down naked" along the town's main street and stopping a car with two women "to chat", and urinating on the front of a shop that was open for business.

According to the report, one rogue firefighter called two superiors at their day jobs and left a voice-mail threat to burn down their houses if they "persisted in reprimanding him for poor work ethics". Other firefighters were warned their cars would be burned.
