Arizona women in hospital after hundreds of bee stings

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Jacobs declined to disclose their names, but said the two women were about 55 years old and 75 years old.

He said that a Phoenix man in his 20s who tried to help the women, was also stung dozens of times and taken to an area hospital.

Witnesses said there were so many bees that at one point they could not see the women’s faces.

Heather Laroc told 3TV, “We hear screaming from outside and there’s two ladies laying in the street and they’re covered with bees from head to toe. You could just not see their skin and screaming ‘Help, help, help’.” She then called the police and the fire department.

According to KNXV, a young man got out of a pickup truck and tied to use a fire extinguisher on the bees.

"It looked like an Alfred Hitchcock movie. They were covered, I mean covered in bees, you couldn't see their face or their skin," Tony Garcia, another witness who tried to rush to the the women's aide, told KNXV. "The other guy was getting stung so he handed me the fire extinguisher and I was trying to get the bees to stop. It was something else, they [the women] had bees in their hair, ears, just all over."

By the time firefighters arrived, the two women were still covered with bees. The firefighters searched for the hive and eventually took it down.
