French President Nicolas Sarkozy's & wife's marriage in crisis, rumours say both having affairs

The rumours of the affairs were first surfaced on microblogging website Twitter, followed by French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.

The tweet claimed that Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy had become romantically involved with long-time musician friend, Benjamin Biolay. Biolay has recently won an award at France's Victoires de la Musique music awards. Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy is now said to be staying with him at his apartment in Paris, French website suchablog.com alleged.

Meanwhile, Mr Sarkozy had found comfort in the arms of French Ecology Minister and national karate champion Chantal Jouanno, 40.

The website of Le Journal du Dimanche wrote: "It's the gossip of the moment that could become the story of the year.

"A romance is said to have started a few weeks ago between the First Lady of France and music award winner Benjamin Biolay.

The Journal du Dimanche added: "It says the presidential marriage is breathing its last breaths. Carla Bruni is in love with Benjamin Biolay and the president has found solace with Chantal Jouanno."
