"The Hurt Locker" Wins Best Picture, First Female Named Best Director At Oscars
The 82nd Academy Awards was hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.
Kathryn Bigelow was chosen the best director. She has been the first woman in history to be awarded as Best Director at the Oscars. Her low-budget Iraq war film, The Hurt Locker, about a bomb disposal team, took six academy awards.
Bigelow described the award as a "moment of a lifetime" and dedicated her Oscar to the servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. "May they come home safe," she said.

Sandra Bullock has bagged her first Best Actress title at the 82nd Academy Awards for her role in "The Blind Side", completing her acting trophies this year with Golden Globes and SAG Awards.
Bullock, who played the real-life matriarch Anne Tuohy in the film, paid tribute to "Helga B," her mom, for "not letting me ride in cars with boys until I was 18" and for reminding her that there's "no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation that makes us better than anyone else. We are all deserving of love."
Interestingly, Bullock was named Worst Actress at the Golden Raspberry Awards a day earlier for her role in "All About Steve".
The Best Supporting Actress trophy went to Mo'Nique for her role in "Precious."
Jeff Bridges and Christoph Waltz, who both already received numerous awards for their roles in the "Crazy Heart" and "Inglourious Basterds," took the academy awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively.
Ben Stiller dressed head-to-toe as a Na'vi to present the best makeup Oscar and began talking to James Cameron in Na'vi language and making Na'vi sex jokes.
