New Face Recognition Application for Android Criticized As "Stalker's Dream" - Recognizr - software - Android - Technology

Recognizr, a new face recognition application for Android mobile phones, has been blasted by security experts as "stalker's dream".

Recognizr, is an Android mobile phone application that allows you to take a photo of a person and use your phone in order to check who a person is and what web services and social networks they’re connected to.

The facial recognition application identifies snapshots by matching them to photos on websites like Facebook and Twitter, where personal info is accessed.

This application is designed by Swedish software and design company The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) which also has local offices in Seoul, Korea and Chicago, Illinois (US).

Security experts have criticized the new software for enabling burglars to find out where targets live.

There are also fears the application could lead to an increase in people being stalked by those who have obtained their personal information.

Dr Ian Brown from the Oxford Internet Institute said: 'A guy could take a picture of a girl in a bar and find out all sorts of information.'

Tom Gaffney, from security software firm F-Secure, added: 'This application looks like it could be a stalker's dream.'
