Conservatives Link New US Missile Defense Agency Logo to Obama's and Islamic Emblems
The Missile Defense Agency, which is part of the Defense Department, is now displaying a circular red, white and blue logo on its Web site (see below).
The logo was designed by TMP Government, a marketing and communications company that has managed Web site redesigns and logos for numerous government agencies, including recovery.gov and more than a dozen Defense and intelligence-related sites.

"I'm having trouble seeing past the crescent and star in the new logo," one critic wrote on WashingtonTimes.com. "Is this our signal to the muslim world that we're not going to shoot down their missiles?"

Nancy Reyes of Blogger News Network wrote: "Heh…is that “O” in the new design a subliminal way to remind one of Obama? On the other hand, those who really are into Obamaphobia are pointing out the MDA logo has a strange resemblance to the crescent and star that symbolize Islam, and that the logo has a strange resemblance to the design of the Iranian Space Agency"

"There is no doubt that the similarities are there, but is that really enough reason for us to go searching for hidden meanings?" asks Liza Mock at Gather.com. "After all, one could argue (and I mean no offense to Trekkies) that the Missile Defense logo also vaguely resembles that of Star Trek."

The the U.S. Missile Defense Agency logo also resembles to that of Pepsi's (see above).
According to Brian Collins, chairman and chief creative officer at COLLINS, a New York-based design and innovation firm, the newer defense agency logo simply used more patriotic colors to put its message through more quickly and simply.
"I wouldn't buy the argument that it's an evolution of the Obama identity," Collins said. "There are similarities but I don't see the genesis in the Obama logo."
