MLB's Bob Bowman won't run for Michigan governor

The Democratic field for governor narrowed again today when former state Treasurer Bob Bowman announced he will not run.

The 54-year-old head of Major League Baseball's interactive media service said in a statement, "For many reasons, I am just not able to commit at this time."

Robert Kolt, a spokesman for Bowman, said he decided not to elaborate on his reasons for bowing out.

"I've heard from a lot of people about this already. People really wanted him to run," Kolt said.

Bowman formed an exploratory committee last week but said in his statement he was compelled to do so because he had spent over $500 in considering a bid.

Bowman works in New York City and lives in suburban Connecticut but has a summer home in the northern Michigan community of Harbor Springs. He's also president of the Michigan Education Trust.
