Grammy Awards: Rockin' the red carpet

Only a close watcher of the living, breathing pop art installation known as Lady Gaga would call her red carpet Grammy Awards outfit restrained. Compared to her MTV Video Music Awards ensembles, that is. Or compared to the Muppet massacre she sported on German television last year. It must be exhausting to be Gaga, having to top yourself all the time. We'll call her red carpet look a postmodern Glinda the Good Witch ... in drag, of course.

But Gaga's sartorial brinksmanship aside, many of the women (and a few of the men) acquitted themselves nicely tonight. Carrie Underwood, a red carpet chameoleon, went modern in a flowing silver gown with a bold, geometric neckline. Speaking of geometry, there was Beyonce, with a gown that make Euclid proud.
