Harold Ford, who met with Assemblyman Vito Lopez (r.) in Brooklyn on Friday, had an unexpected encounter with an angry protester.

Harold Ford may not be running for Senate yet, but Friday he passed an important milestone: he got his first protester.

The boisterous critic - armed with signs that read "Liar" and "Anti-choice, anti-gay, snake-oil Harry, go away!" - crashed a Ford sitdown with Brooklyn Democratic leaders in Williamsburg.

"I took the day off from work," protester Jon Winkleman said. "It was worth it."

It was a dramatic interlude in an otherwise smooth day of politicking by Ford, who met with Kings County Democratic leader, Assemblyman Vito Lopez and later with the Bronx Democratic boss, Assemblyman Carl Heastie.

"Personally, not as a county leader, if he decided to run, very difficult not to endorse him," Lopez said after his meeting.

Ford has not decided if he'll challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the Democratic primary, but he seems headed that way. On Sunday, he'll make the rounds in Syracuse.
