A magnitude-5.8 earthquake shook the Cayman Islands Tuesday morning, one week after a severe earthquake devastated the Caribbean nation of Haiti.

The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, some 64 kilometres from capital George Town on the island of Grand Cayman at 9:23 am (1423 GMT), the US Geological Survey in Washington said.

No damage or casualties had yet been reported.

The Cayman Islands are located in the Caribbean south of Cuba and north Jamaica.

Last week a strong magnitude-7 quake destroyed much of Haiti and as many as 200,000 people are feared dead, US and UN officials have said.
