BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.—The Beverly Hills school board will soon vote on a proposal to boot out almost 500 out-of-district students.

A huge crowd is expected to attend the meeting Tuesday night where the board will vote on the matter, which has inflamed sentiment in the exclusive community near Los Angeles.

The Beverly Hills school district has long boasted schools that have won state and federal recognition for excellence and a rich menu of extracurricular activities.

Several families whose children would be booted from the district have circulated petitions and posted Facebook threats to convince the board to abandon the proposal.

But the district is switching to a funding formula that no longer allows it to obtain state funding for each outsider it enrolls.
