MagicJack Unveils New Device To Make Free Cell Phone Calls - Technology - MagicJack - VoIP - Communication

MagicJack has unveiled a new device that allows cell phones to be used for free over the internet.

MagicJack has already sold over five million of its devices that allow traditional landline telephones to place calls for free over the internet. At the International Consumers Electronics Show, this new device that allows the same service for cell phones was unveiled.

The new device uses a piece of technology called a femtocell to connect any cell phone that uses GSM technology to a computer with a broadband connection. Most phones on the AT&T and T-Mobile networks use GSM. The cell phone can then be used without using a customer’s mobile plan minutes to make calls to anywhere in the United States or Canada. The device works the same as the original magicJack by utilizing VoIP technology that makes talking over the internet free of charge.

The new device is roughly the size of a deck of playing cards. It will go on sale in about four months for $40, the same price as the original magicJack. The device will come with a free year of service. Users will be charged $20 per year to use the service after the first year.
