Ulster property 'unaffordable' for first-time buyers - UK - first-time buyers - research

DESPITE a 40 per cent house price plunge, homes remain unaffordable right across the Province for first-time buyers hoping to get on the property ladder.

Research released at the weekend by the high street bank Halifax, who produce one of the UK's most respected house price surveys, shows that alongside London, Northern Ireland has the most out-of-reach house prices for first-time buyers in the UK.

While the Halifax survey concludes that the purchase of a property is now achievable for first-time buyers on an average wage in four out of 10 areas of the UK, it found that only property in Northern Ireland and London has remained unaffordable in 100 per cent of those two regions' local authority districts since 2007.
