The candidates for the late Edward Kennedy’s U.S. Senate seat are raking in campaign donations as they head into the final three weeks of the campaign.

Democrat Martha Coakley’s campaign said she’s raised about $1 million in the reporting period that ends Thursday at midnight.

That brings Coakley’s total fundraising number since the beginning of the Senate campaign to more than $5.2 million.

Republican Scott Brown said his fundraising has picked up since he won the GOP primary. He said he’s raised $700,000 during the reporting period.

Brown said much of the fundraising has come online. On Thursday he launched a so-called "money bomb" — an Internet fundraising tool used to raise money over a specific time period.

The election is Jan. 19.
