NYC Mayor Declares September 20 Prayer in the Square Day: Thousands Gathering to Pray in Times Square
Mayor Bloomberg issued a proclamation declaring Sunday, September 20, 2009, Prayer in the Square Day. The proclamation praises the one-hour event to pray for our nation as a gathering where "people from across the country of different denominations and backgrounds come together in their shared vision of a better world and their belief in the power of prayer to make a positive impact on us all."

Prayer in the Square will take place Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 3:00-4:00pm in New York City's Times Square. 264 churches in the tri-state area will be coming to pray, 62 youth groups and an estimated one hundred college ministries will be participating. 87 churches, 26 states and 19 countries, including Burundi, Pakistan, Kenya, United Kingdom, Benin, Singapore, and Israel, will pray via the live webcast at http://www.nycprayer.org.
"Something very profound is going to happen this year," says Carter Conlon, Senior Pastor of Times Square Church, which is organizing the event. "In the Bible, Daniel, a prophet of God, prayed on behalf of a people who had sinned. He prayed explicitly for mercy and forgiveness. We will gather in humility to pray and ask God for forgiveness on behalf of our nation. I believe we will see the fulfillment of why God has asked us to pray," adds Conlon. "God would not call on us to pray if He did not intend to answer."

The event will be broadcast live on Christian radio station STAR 99.1 FM (New York), and Radio Cantico Nuevo (Spanish language, New York).
