Bangkok’s building costs fall - Thailand - Bangkok - Housing Crisis - Construction

The Thai Appraisal Foundation (TAF) has announced the construction costs for the majority of building types in Bangkok fell between June and September; the first time in 16 years that costs have declined.

However, the TAF construction price index remained unchanged as the cost of steel increased by 8 percent and cement prices remained stable. Sopon Pornchokchai, president of TAF, said the foundation left the index unchanged from June as there was no significant change in the overall increase in the cost of materials.

The cost of wooden two-storey houses saw the largest construction cost increase of 6.5 percent year-on-year due to the scarcity of wood, while single-storey wooden houses built on stilts increased by 6.3 percent. Two-storey shophouses rose by 6.2 percent and one-storey wooden houses by 6 percent.
