US warns against travel to India

The United States issued a travel advisory on Monday, asking its citizens to be careful while living and travelling within India.

The advisory says there is a high threat from terrorism throughout India and advises Americans to keep a low profile, especially while visiting public places.

Americans have been advised to monitor local news reports carefully and to assess security at public places like restaurants and hotels before visiting them.

They've also been asked to ensure their travel documents are valid - presumably to ensure they're able to leave India in a hurry.
