Scotland's universities to share £1billion funding pot
A total of £1.14 billion is to be shared among 20 universities in 2009-10, although the method of allocation has been overhauled since last year.
The sum, announced by the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council, includes £988million of general funding and a further £126million of so-called "horizon" money.
The system gives universities more overall freedom over their finances, but to qualify for the horizon cash they have to spend it delivering the SNP's target of stimulating economic growth.
