Bangladesh asks FBI to help probe mutiny: US - Bangladesh

The Bangladeshi authorities have asked the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to help probe a troop mutiny last week which killed at least 74 people, US officials said Tuesday.

"We have received a request from the government of Bangladesh for the FBI to help in forensic investigation into the mutiny," Gordon Duguid, a State Department spokesman said.

In brutal revolt, around 1,000 Bangladeshi troops are suspected of slaughtering scores of their superior officers on February 24, in a dispute over pay.

Duguid said he believed that the FBI had agreed to the request, but referred reporters to the bureau, which said it had made no decision.
