ITV have previous when it comes sporting gaffes - ITV - Liverpool - Everton

One man's Football Focus was another man's On The Ball, and one couch potato's Grandstand was another slob's World of Sport.

Personally, I was always a bigger fan of BBC sport, before they lost the rights to everything except international tiddlywinks and cross-country youth hostelling, than ITV's presentation for one major reason - adverts.

And that prejudice was reinforced, with armour plating, by Wednesday night's debacle when ITV cut to an ad break towards the end of extra time at Goodison Park and missed Dan Gosling scoring Everton's FA Cup replay winner against Liverpool.

Gosling's mum Hilary, watching at home 300 miles away at home in Devon, missed the biggest moment of her son's life so the nation could marvel of the virtues of mints or cars made in Germany.
