Klee Brasserie
Spare European-American cooking and decor appeals to Chelsea art lovers. The style falls somewhere between Shaker and Scandinavian, with blond woodwork lending a clean, cozy style. A mosaic-tiled wall in the back, busy with green and gold orbs, introduces a modern art bent. The partially open kitchen helps set the scene for the gallery refugees who make the space feel like an after-opening party.
Dilettante-style eating works best, as small plates hold the European-American menu's strengths. A generous martini glass is filled with lemon-hinted char tartare. Delicious, homemade garlic potato chips encourage addiction, as do treats like the airy Alsatian thin-crust pizza, dressed ever so slightly with caramelized onion, creme fraiche and chives. The juicy, perfectly seasoned pork chop is the masterpiece among the mains, at least compared to a halibut and a hangar steak, which both suffer from overly subdued flavoring. Bold sorbets are colorful on the plate and the palate and make a better ending than the soggy apple strudel.
What to Drink
Elderflower essence gives the margarita a nice Alpine touch for a starting cocktail. End the meal with a winning rare treat, the Stone Pine Liquer of the Alps, which smells and tastes foresty fresh.
Late Night DiningSmall plates and bar bites are on offer until 1am nightly.
LunchThe lunch menu includes dishes like porcini mushroom chowder and short rib and chard ravioli.
